The city of Sheffield is renowned for its football. Sheffield United Football Club is in the Championship League and regularly hosts football matches. The home ground is called Bramall Lane which has a capacity of over thirty thousand. They are nicknamed the Blades and have won the FA Cup on four occasions.
Sheffield Wednesday is the other football team in town and they are part of the League 1 campaign. The home ground is called Hillsborough and they also host regular football matches. With a capacity of over thirty nine thousand, Hillsborough is a highly regarded football ground which has hosted World Cup and European Championship games.
In addition to this we have the Sheffield Football Club which is the first football club ever and hence the oldest. Along with Real Madrid, it is the only other club to hold the FIFA Order of Merit. The men’s team plays in the first division South and the Stadium is called the Local Business Stadium. It has a seating capacity of nearly three thousand.
Sheffield is also home to the Crucible Theatre. This is located in the city centre and is home to the World Snooker Championships. With a capacity of nearly one thousand, it has hosted the competition annually since 1977.
