Sheffield did have its own airport which was called Sheffield City Airport and Heliport. It was located near the M1 motorway and opened in 1997. However well into 2008 the Airport was closed and Council decided to turn it into a business park instead. It was simply suffering from financial problems even though before the airport came into operation, it was the largest European city without an airport.
The nearest airport to Sheffield is the Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster. It is one of the newest airports built and was a former RAF site. It flies to many destinations including Italy, Greece, Finland, Portugal and also Egypt.
The airport has many eating places which include the Costa Coffee and also Weather spoons. It also has an Alpha Airport Shopping area which is duty and tax free. There is a first choice kids corner in the departure lounge and car park booking is available for less than £5 a day. Car hire, travel money and airport hotels are also available. The Airport is approximately 30 minuites away by car.
As part of our selection of services, Sheffield Minibus and Coach Hire can offer a pick up and drop off service to and from the Airport. Why waste money on airport parking, over night stays or even car rentals when we can safely provide a cost effective pinpointed transport service.
